MAUI BEACHES AND TRAILS

DAY 1: Fly to Kahului, Maui. Check into the Maui Beach Hotel. Group orientation.

DAY 2: Hike the Waihee Ridge Trail (5 miles roundtrip). Visit Iao Valley. Return to hotel. In the afternoon, visit H.P. Baldwin Beach, the Village of Paia and Hookipa Beach Park.

DAY 3: Drive into Haleakala National Park to the 10,023 foot summit of Haleakala. Hike the 11-mile loop to the bottom of the crater down the Sliding Sands Trail and up the Halemauu Trail. Drive back to the summit to enjoy the sunset. Return to hotel.

DAY 4: Drive to Kihei area. Check into our private condo units. Spend most of the day relaxing at area beaches (Big Beach, Little Beach, Wailea Beach, etc.) Enjoy Wailea Marriot’s 5-star Luau as the sun disappears into the ocean.

DAY 5: Embark on an early morning snorkeling trip to the island of Molokini. Many whale watching opportunities along the way (December through April only). Afterwards, visit the Maui Ocean Center in Maalaea. Tour of Lahaina. Enjoy a Hawaiian sunset at a Kihei area beach. Enjoy Kihei area nightlife.

DAY 6: Drive north along the coastline of West Maui. Visit Kaanapali Beach (snorkel at Black Rock, shop at Whaler’s Village), Kahekili Beach Park and Kapalua Beach. Continue on to Nakalele Blowhole and Kahakuloa Village. Drive back through Wailuku and Kahului to Kihei, completing the West Maui circuit. Enjoy Kihei area nightlife.

DAY 7: Drive into “Upcountry Maui” to Polipoli State Park. Hike a 3.5 mile loop at about 6,200 feet along the Redwood Trail, the Plum Trail and the Haleakala Ridge Trail. Drive through the Upcountry region stopping at the Tedeschi Winery and the villages of Kula, Makawao and Haiku. Enjoy a beachside barbecue.

DAY 8: Travel back through Central Maui to the North Shore and onto the famous Hana Highway. Drive to Hana in East Maui making stops at Keanae Peninsula, Nahiku and Waianapanapa State Park. Check into our private condo units in Hana. Wind down from a day on the road at nearby Hamoa Beach.

DAY 9: Drive to the Kipahulu area of Haleakala National Park for our final hike – the famous Pipiwai Trail to the base of 400-foot Waimoku Falls (4 miles roundtrip). Visit Black Sand Beach and Red Sand Beach. Enjoy a relaxing swim at Koki Beach and/or Hamoa Beach.

DAY 10: Complete our circumnavigation of the island of Maui with a scenic drive along the rugged southern coast passing Kipahulu, Kaupo Gap and Upcountry Maui before arriving once again at Kahului. Return to the airport for our flights home.
